Altair is a company dedicated to providing modern and futuristic workplaces for Silicon Valley's brightest engineers. Their functional designs aim to create space for collaboration, with a heavy emphasis on ease of access and features aimed at maintaining mental and physical health.
Howell Electric was selected to provide and install a new voice evacuation fire alarm system for 12 floors, including basement levels, stairwells, and elevator cabs. The 141,293 sq ft Altair facility features a rooftop workspace, fitness centers, touchless elevators, and quick access to the downtown area and Caltrain station.
The fire system includes a provided and installed smoke control panel, 70V distributed amplifier with speakers, strobe power supply with strobes, manual pull stations at FACU, fire sprinkler monitoring equipment, elevator recall equipment, smoke detection in electrical rooms, mechanical system shutdown equipment, ERRCS monitoring equipment, emergency generator monitoring equipment, AES radio interface equipment, and rescue air monitoring.
Systems Delivered
Voice Evacuation Fire Alarm System
- New voice evacuation fire alarm system provided and installed across 12 floors, including basement levels, stairwells, and elevator cabs.
- 70V distributed amplifier with speakers, strobe power supply with strobes, and manual pull stations at FACU for full-building notification and coverage.
AES Radio Equipment
- AES radio interface equipment integrated with the fire alarm system for reliable off-premises signal transmission to the central station.
- Cellular backup communication ensures the building fire alarm system remains supervised even during primary-path failure.
Monitoring Equipment
- Smoke control panel, fire sprinkler monitoring, elevator recall equipment, and smoke detection in electrical rooms.
- Mechanical system shutdown, ERRCS monitoring, emergency generator monitoring, and rescue air monitoring for complete life-safety supervision.
