// Overview

A full design-build ERRCS for a two-building life-science campus.

HFS Systems was awarded the full design-build contract to deliver a robust emergency radio response communications system serving the industrial/lab campus located at 331 & 333 Oyster Point Boulevard, South San Francisco, CA 94080.

  • 331 Oyster Point Blvd — a four-story, approximately 128,750 sq ft Class A office/R&D/lab building (built in 2010), with ample parking and tenants such as Pliant Therapeutics.
  • 333 Oyster Point Blvd — also in the Britannia Oyster Point II campus, a Class A flex-office/lab building of roughly 121,760 sq ft, completed in 2008, with 340 parking spaces and a flexible lease footprint of about 30,140 sq ft.

The ERRCS system consisted of a networked tri-band BDA solution with 2-hour survivability — reinforcing safety compliance and elevating campus reliability and resilience.

ERRCS Systems

01

Tri-Band BDA Network

  • Integrated design covering VHF/UHF/700–800 MHz bands, providing full building penetration and redundant link paths.
  • Networked tri-band BDA solution with 2-hour survivability across both campus buildings.
02

2-Hour Survivability

  • Emergency backup power ensures the system remains fully operational for at least 2 hours in the event of utility outage.
  • Dedicated UPS and generator interface guarantee 2-hour battery backup in power failure scenarios.
03

Networked Architecture

  • BDAs in both buildings interconnected to ensure seamless coordination across the campus during critical events.
  • Centralized monitoring provides a single view of system health across the full campus.
04

Regulatory Compliance

  • Engineered to meet NFPA and IFC mandates for emergency responder radio coverage in R&D/office buildings.
  • Certified to jurisdiction-specific requirements for life-science and lab facilities.
// Scope of Work

Delivery Systems

01

Site Survey & Analysis

  • Conducted comprehensive radio propagation and interior coverage mapping across both buildings.
  • Identified signal-strength deficiencies in stairwells, elevator shafts, basements, and critical areas.
02

System Engineering & Design

  • Developed a technically robust architecture featuring dual-band amplifiers, donor antennas, DAS/BDA placements, power infrastructure, and centralized monitoring.
  • Customized design tailored to the unique requirements of the R&D/lab campus.
03

Installation & Commissioning

  • Included civil and electrical mounting, cable pathways, equipment racks, and ANSI-rated firewalls for risers.
  • End-to-end system testing performed to validate performance and redundancy.
04

Backup Power Integration

  • A dedicated UPS and generator interface installed to guarantee 2-hour battery backup in power failure scenarios.
  • Redundant power paths ensure continuous ERRCS operation during outages.
05

Training & Documentation

  • Delivered complete technical manuals, as-built drawings, and system commissioning reports.
  • Provided user training for facility operations and maintenance teams.
// Key Benefits to the Client

Client Outcomes

Reliable Emergency Communications for first responders and public safety personnel throughout the campus.

Regulatory Assurance and Operational Readiness to support life-safety operations under all conditions.

Future-Proof, Scalable Infrastructure adaptable to expansion or changing radio frequencies.

Minimal Business Disruption during installation, thanks to phased execution and coordination with building occupants.
